Our Food sucks.

Obesity and heart disease are at an all time high and our food is one of the main reasons. (I’ll save a sedentary lifestyle for another blog.)

Today, there are thousands of unnecessary ingredients found in our food that damage the natural “I’m full” hormones and “I’m hungry” hormones. Not only do they mess with our ghrelin and leptin but they also create a coating inside the lining of the stomach that doesn’t allow our bodies to absorb nutrients properly. This wreaks havoc not only on our bodies but our minds pay the price too.

I have had many clients (past and present) who tell me they workout 7 days a week for at least 1 hour a day but see no results. When we go on to talk about their lifestyle habits this is what I hear…

“I was on a great diet and lost so much weight, but it was so hard to maintain.”

“I eat chicken, Rice and veggies every day.”

“I eat a low fat diet.”

“I fast everyday until noon and eat “healthy” afterwards.”

“I know how to eat healthy, it doesn’t work.”

Once I hear what their past trials with diet were I am then asked “Can you make a meal plan for me?”

The problem with meal plans is that…they don’t work. NONE OF THEM. Trust me, I was forced down that road prior to owning my own business. Do you see changes for a while? Yes, of course. However they don’t last and it only leads to more weight gain post diet.

My follow up question to the meal planning that I always ask is, “What ingredients are in your food?”. Of course, we look at other factors such as medications they are currently taking, birth control (one of the biggest reasons why women gain weight and cannot lose it), etc. When I bring up ingredients to stay away from I typically get that look as if someone were just murdered right in front of us. People don’t want to hear it. This means giving up the highly processed, refined trash food that has held us in bondage for so many years that we have become addicted to like a crack addict but yet we don’t see it this way. Remember it isn’t just from eating it once or twice, it is from eating it for years upon years.

I began to make a list of ingredients and foods that are dangerous to our health to send to clients. Here is what that list entails…

Hyrdrogenated oils - soy, safflower, sunflower, canola

Fake sugars - high fructose corn syrup, maltose, dextrose, agave, sucralose, sugar, cane sugar

Enriched products (found in breads)

Bleached products (found in breads)

All dairy that is highly processed (you want non-homegenized or raw)

Meat that is not pasture raised, free range and grassfed

Emulsifiers

Food coloring - unless you know they have used real food for the coloring

Natural flavors - you will see this in many foods, there is nothing natural about it

Rennet - found in cheeses

Remember these are Ingredients/foods that are dangerous to your health.
